How to start your career as a WordPress Website designer? First of all, you need to learn WordPress. Using WordPress you can create a website easily. WordPress will have themes. Themes will provide an easy way to create a website. You need to learn at least 10 themes. Then you can start getting some clients. If you are new to this, try to charge less. As you gain experience and perfection, you can charge more. Once you start getting good quality clients who can pay you more, you can increase your charges. After that, establish your own brand with a new company name. People will trust your company, if it has good brand value. 

Learn WordPress

You need to learn how to install WordPress in your computer or laptop. Before that you need to install Xampp and any other similar software. Open it and start Apache server and MySql. After installing xampp, download wordpress from its official website https://wordpress.org/download. After downloading open the zip file, open wordpress folder in it. Press Ctrl+A to select all files and then press Ctrl+C to copy them. Wait for some time till it gets copied. Go to your xampp folder where xampp is installed. Open htdocs folder and remove all files inside that. Press Ctrl+V to paste the wordpress files. Open Google Chrome or any other browser. Press Ctrl+L to enter URL in the address bar. Type localhost and press enter. Select language and click on Continue. Click on Lets go. Change username to root, keep password field empty. Change database name if you want. Make sure it does not contain any space or special characters. Now go to localhost/phpmyadmin. Create a database. Click on Databases. Under create database enter your database name that is wordpress. Click on create. After that come back to previous page localhost, click on submit. If everything is correct you can see the success message. Click on Run the installation. In the next page enter site title “My New website”. Username “admin”, copy the password. Enter you email and click on install WordPress. After installation login to wordpress.

WordPress comes with themes and plugins which save your work. Select Best Themes in WordPress. Install suitable theme for you client website. It will be good if the theme comes with demo import feature.

Build your brand

Many people think of starting a company but they start with registering their company, making good office setup, furniture etc. They hire new employees and company’s operating costs will increase. This will make difficult for the company to continue. If you don’t have huge investment, I suggest a simple start.

In the starting few months only founders should work. Don’t expect huge salaries or profits in starting days. As we are doing online business we don’t need a grand office. Rather focus on building your website.

How to improve website

Website speed and design are the primary factors in a business website. Loading time should be less than 3 seconds. Design should be simple and clean. Don’t add too much content and make it cluttered. Homepage should clearly show the visitors about your business and services you provide.

1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a must for every website. Use SEO plugins like Yoast to speed up your work. Connect to Google Search Console to see the performance and errors.
2. Page Speed Insights is a tool by Google which is used to measure webpage speed and it give suggestions to improve the speed.
3. Add Live Chatting Support to your website. Chat with your visitors and convert them into customers by answering their doubts. Use tawk.to (Live chatting widget).
4. Screen Record your visitor’s actions. smartlook.com, mouseflow.com etc. provide this service. They record of users clicks and mouse movements in your webpage and makes videos. You can watch those videos and understand the user experience.
5. Add Google Analytics or Jetpack to see daily traffic, number of views and from where your visitors are coming to your site.
6. Maintain a blog / newsletter. Write articles about your company updates and some other info useful to your customers. Send new posts alerts emails to all registered users.
7. Accept Payments Globally. As this is website development work, you can get customers from anywhere in the world. So add payment methods like Paypal, Stripe, Razorpay etc.
8. Add Multi currency support. Prices shown in your website can be changed according to visitor’s location and their local currency. Automatic Geo-location and currency changing is much better.
9. Multi language would be great feature. Add some auto translate plugins to translate pages into other languages. Users can choose their preferred language.
10. Use your own unique images. Don’t use routine stock photos taken from Google. Better to use different kind of images. Use free illustration images from freepik.com, pexels.com, picsum.photos etc.

All these features you can add in your own website or client’s website. Create social media presence for your company and start getting new customers.
